What is Neptous

Neptous is a forum I (Aashish Panthi) created to help students apply to US universities. I curated this site to provide solutions to the problems I personally faced during my application process.

Why should you listen to me? I think I can help you because I am an average student just like most of you. I had a shitty GPA of 3.44, a very achievable SAT score of 1410 (prepared for 10 days), and an essay I wrote in 4 hours just because my flight got delayed and somehow I ended up getting ...

How to really apply to the universities

So, the best thing about applying to US universities compared to other popular study destinations is that you can complete all the application process by yourself from the comfort of your home.

I never had to go out of my home except for going to SAT. So, there is an app called common app. It helps you to apply to US universities for free (waiving application fee of ~90% universities). Firstly, set up your account by w ...

For the students of grade 11 and 12

Contributed by Alok Parajuli

Grade 11 and 12 seems to be the most delusional period of students. At least, I wasn’t sure about what to do till the end of grade 12 but I don’t want you to be like that. Preparing early and making a gameplan will always step up your game and same goes with applying to the United States. It up to yo ...

SAT: Most Important Exam

So let me introduce you to the SAT, probably the most important exam you have given in your life. Before telling you anything else I want you tell that I know a senior of 3.2 GPA(NEB), no extracurriculars and nothing sort of special. But he had 1520 in the SAT and he is studying in fullride at Fisk. Like all of his living and dining expenses for 4 years are covered due to that one single exam. So if that doesn't tell you its importance what else will.

There are a lot of unive ...

You don't need consultancies, consultancies need you

You don't need consultancy, consultancy needs you. As I have explained in my first article that you can self-apply to the universities, I’ll say you the drawbacks of applying through consultancies.

  1. You won’t learn anything. Consultancy will do everything for you and you miss out on learning how to research, how to think about universities, you won’t know the merits and demerits of the university you are going. Just to be short, you’ll be spoonfed and you’d t ...

IELTS is not that important

IELTS is not that important. IELTS rarely provides any scholarship whereas high score in SAT even provides full ride scholarships in some universities. I would not suggest you do IELTS first-hand. First shortlist your universities. Many universities accept duolingo( a cheaper and easier alternative to IELTS) and some also waive English proficiency requirement based on your high school curriculum. But also, if your shortlisted university only accepts IELTS then only give IELTS. IELTS is ...

Need and Merit based Scholarships

So, universities give you two types of scholarships.

One is merit based scholarship which is given seeing your academic and professional achievements. It is similar to the scholarships people get in colleges of Nepal after SEE based on their GPA criteria.

Another one is need-based scholarships. Need-based scholarships are scholarships given to you based on your financial condition. During your application process, you’d be asked about your financial co ...

Best and Safety Universities

For most of us, we can go into two types of universities only: best and safety.

What are the best universities?

Those universities that are recognized for their high academic standards, research excellence, faculty expertise, resources, and overall reputation. They are the best, and everyone in the world wants to study there. However, it is very tough to get into them, and statistically speaking, 99% of people reading this won’t go to the best ...
